He moved the station to Waterloo, but it returned to Cedar Rapids the year following its sale to the Cowles family in 1934. KDPS Television Collection (Des Moines) Abstract: KDPS-TV (Channel 11) was an educational television station run by the Des Moines Public Schools. It launched in 1959 and had a tower on top of Des Moines Technical High School near downtown. The station produced some of the earliest locally produced educational programming, classroom instruction videos called “chalk talks” intended for broadcast and use in schools across the viewing area. The station was purchased by the State of Iowa in 1969 to become part of the Iowa Educational Broadcasting Network, which later became Iowa Public Television. This collection consists of seven educational films on Foundations of Mathematics that were filmed in Des Moines for television broadcast. Created in 1965, they are labeled for release in 1967. Wayne Anderson Collection Abstract: Wayne Anderson has been a cinematographer, videographer, producer, and director for over 50 years. He began his career as a cinematographer for WMT-TV from 1976-1985. During this time he shot and produced almost 2,000 television commercials for local and regional advertising. In addition to this, he produced special features for soft programming, events, and MDA telethons. He was one of the first to produce broadcast quality commercials on videotape. After 1985, Wayne worked at local stations and Iowa advertising agencies. He helped to create Images Productions in 1989, and was one of the first to edit digital video. Collection includes U-matic/Betacam videos of WMT-TV local broadcast features, including MDA telethons, documentary programs, commercials, ag safety programs, and more. KWWL Television Collection (NBC, Waterloo) Abstract: KWWL Channel 7 television went on the air in 1953, after a long legal battle won by R.J. McElroy and Black Hawk Broadcasting, who also owned KWWL-AM radio. KWWL-TV was the Waterloo, Iowa NBC affiliate, but once it built a larger tower in the late 1960s, its viewing area expanded to Cedar Rapids/Waterloo/Dubuque. With the addition of popular Iowa broadcasters Grant Price and Craig Johnson, KWWL led the ratings for eastern Iowa news from the mid-1970s to 2000. This collection contains audiovisual items (film, U-matic, Betacam, MII, VHS, DVD, DVCPro) of broadcasts, and paper records of KWWL administration.
