KXEL Radio Collection
Preface
The purpose of the Archives of Iowa Broadcasting is to establish and maintain a permanent collection of materials relating to the history, development and contribution of radio and television in Iowa.
The Archives is committed to providing access to holdings. However, access to some items may be restricted by their fragile condition or by contractual agreement with the donors. Due to the complexity and variety of audiovisual formats, most items will need to be digitally duplicated or transferred before access can be provided.

Abstract: Audiovisual materials, 1952. This collection contains audio recordings created by KXEL Radio. The collection consists of 3 and 7-inch tapes. Main subjects of the recordings include current news, talk shows, and country music.

Statoin History
History: KXEL Radio is a class A, commercial station covering the Waterloo and Cedar Rapids areas in Iowa. It was founded in 1942 by Don E. Kassner. It started out with airing ABC programming, and later switched to its current, news/talk format. Today it airs in over twenty states and the entirety of Canada. Its most popular shows include the Classic Radio Theater and The Twilight Zone. The station became 75 years old in 2017.
