Archives of Iowa Broadcasting: Digital Collections

AIB establishes and maintains a permanent collection of materials relating to the history, development and contribution of radio and television in Iowa.

WHO Radio Historic Broadcasts

This is a collection of historic radio broadcasts from WHO Radio in Des Moines, Iowa. These digitized recordings from 1938-1961 cover a variety of topics in Iowa, American, and World History, including: agriculture and farming, entertainment, music, and sports, politics, special events, and World War II broadcasts.

This project is supported by a Recordings at Risk grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR). The grant program is made possible by funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

KWWL Digitization Project

The Archives of Iowa Broadcasting has received an NEH grant of about $165,000 to 1) create an online catalog of the more than 28,000 audiovisual items in the AIB, and 2) digitize more than 2,200 news broadcasts from KWWL-TV and add them to the catalog for easy online access.

Originally scheduled to run from May 2018-April 2020, the project has been granted extensions due to changes in project management personnel and COIVD-19.
