Agency History

History: IPTV officially started in 1967 under the establishment of the State Educational Radio and Television Facility Board and IPTV was initially called the Iowa Education Broadcasting Network. Two years later, on March 30, the first broadcast aired at 3 p.m. At this time the Instructional Services Department was created which was focused on providing educational programming to Iowa’s schools and teachers. In 1976 the IEBN became the Iowa Public Broadcasting Network (IPBN) and finally to IPTV in 1982 which became independent in 2001. IPTV still broadcasts over Iowa today with transmitters or translators in Rock Rapids, Sibley, Mason City, Decorah, Lansing, Sioux City, Fort Dodge, Waterloo, Des Moines, Iowa City, Davenport, Council Bluffs, Red Oak, Ottumwa, Keosauqua, Ft. Madison and Keokuk.

Timeline: 1967 to present.
