Laptops 101

A workshop presented by the ELITE Consultants at Vogel Library.

Display Types

When we talk about "Display", we are referring to the screen type.

  1. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display): Older, affordable, and energy-efficient, starting to be a little outdated but still relevant.
  2. IPS (In-Plane Switching): Offers accurate colors and wide viewing angles; very common and popular.
  3. OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode): Delivers excellent color accuracy, contrast, and true blacks. High quality but less common in laptops compared to LCD/IPS.

Most laptops still use LCD/IPS, with GPUs improving visuals, while OLED is the premium choice if display quality is a priority.
