Streaming film databases

Yes, we have streaming film options!

While our physical DVD collection contains many credible nonfiction and feature films from a variety of topics, we encourage you to explore our streaming film databases, especially as these offer you more options for remote instruction.

Kanopy

Kanopy has 400+ Criterion films, many other feature films, and documentaries.

To embed a Kanopy film in my.wartburg, follow these steps:

  1. Add an element to a my.wartburg page that will open the html text box. Several pages give you the option to do this, including the Blog and Free-form pages.
  2. Click the "source code" option--it looks like html carrots : < >.Screen shot of the source code icon
  3. In another window, open Kanopy and navigate to your preferred film.
  4. Click on the "Share" option, click on the "embed" option, and copy the embed code.
  5. In the my.wartburg window, paste the embed code into the "source code" box. Save.
  6. The film should now display as embedded. Because there have been issues with the videos not playing off-campus, we recommend that you also provide the link to the film for students (this is found on the same "Share" option where you got the embed code.

Do not follow the recommended procedure of choosing "show external remote content" on a free-form page. Kanopy films will not display.

Academic Video Online (AVON)

AVON provides streaming access to documentaries and nonfiction films.

You can embed AVON films 2 ways:

  1. Add an element to any page, and in the "source code" window of a text box, paste, the embed code.
  2. Create a free-form content page, select "Show external remote content," and pasting the permalink--you will have to delete the first part of the permalink that includes the ezproxy address.
  3. In either case, you should still link to the permalink underneath the embedded video so students have another accessible option.

Can't find what you want?

Let your librarian know what film you'd like to access. We can provide you with options, investigate purchasing individual streaming access, or provide you with alternatives.
