Introduction

Before you start digging into a ton of sources, it's best to know what questions to ask. This way, you'll select the best sources for your needs. You are welcome to save or print the infographic below, so you can keep these questions with you while you are searching.

  1. What is it?
    • Find the full story: title, source, type, and purpose
  2. Why do I care?
    • Does it fit the assignment requirement? Or some other need?
  3. What Does It Really Say?
    • Word Choice: Why those words and not their synonyms?
    • Inclusion and Omission of Facts: What motivated the author(s) to include or exclude certain facts?
    • Aim: Is the author intending to inform? Persuade? Something else?
