NEH Grant Project Instructions

1. Create a new Premiere Pro Project

1. Open Adobe Premiere Pro and create a new project

2. Save the file in your assigned drive, in the “Premiere” folder. Name the file using the number of your current video file.

3.Drag file from MP4 folder (in your file explorer) into the Adobe Premiere Pro timeline box

2. Edit video

Edit the video by removing static, bars, and dead air, then cutting into clips.*

1. Play the video mark the in and out of the first clips

2. Use the razor tool to split the marked in/out clip from the rest of the video

  1. Razor and delete all static, bars, and blank space in the video as you go.
  2. Remove blank spaces by dragging the blue video bar to the left, next to the last clip, every time you delete a section

3. Repeat editing process until the whole video has been divided into clips in the timeline

*Do not delete content such as commercial breaks. Commercial blocks should be treated like any other clip.

3. Nest Clips

  1.  Right click each clip and select "Nest"
  2. Name the nested sequence [file name]_[numerical order] (Format numerical order as 01-09, then 10-99).
    • Ex: 123456789_01, 123456789_02, 123456789_03...
    • To avoid mistakes and save time, use [Ctrl+V] to paste the number each time.
  3. Repeat until each clip has been nested.

4. Save Clips

  1. In the "Project" Window, select all of the clip files
    • The clip files are the ones with "_[#]" at the end
      • (Ex: 123456789_01...)

  1. In the top left area of Premiere, click "Export"

  1. Set Preset to AIB Preset

  1. Click "Send to Media Encoder"
    • This will open a new program (Adobe Media Encoder) and import all of the clips into it. It may take a few minutes to finish importing.

  1. Once all of the files have uploaded into Adobe Media Encoder, select all of the files in the queue (Ctrl+A) and click on one of the “output file” links to choose where to save the clips.
  • Always make sure you are saving into your assigned drive.

  1. Click the green arrow in the right corner to start the export process. This will take about 10 minutes to complete.
  2. After the Media Encoder is done exporting all of the files, check your Drive->Clips folder to ensure that all of the clips properly downloaded.

5.Repeat

Repeat the instructions in boxes 1-4 for every MP4 video file.
