Sociology Research: Citing

Citation Style

In Sociology, APA (American Psychological Association) Style is accepted by some professors, but ASA (American Sociological Association) is used by authors submitting articles for publication.

Some sociology departments have adopted ASA style as the primary model while others allow both formats.

ASA style is based on The Chicago Manual of Style. APA style emphasizes the date of the publication--an important factor in research. You will need to be very clear about the expectations of your professors. Style guides for both formats are on permanent reserve at Vogel Library's 2nd floor Service Desk.
