STEP 1:

FROM THE DATABASE:

Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print

Look in this EBSCOhost database.  You can search for a test category, a specific test, a publisher, or other variables.  Your goal is to discover relevant test reviews.

The review you locate will describe and evaluate suggested tests.  It does not provide the actual test, as most of those must be purchased for a fee.  If you are interested in getting a copy of a specific test, check with your professor for further directions.

This database contains the online full-text of two ongoing series of foundational psychology resources that are published in book form by The Buros Institues:

• Mental Measurement Yearbook
• Tests in Print

FROM THE WEBSITE:

A second place to find suggested tests is the online website for The Buros Institute, who is the publisher of Mental Measurements Yearbook, Tests in Print, and other testing materials. You can type in the name of a test topic and discover the source that contains relevant test reviews.

A typical entry includes this information: Reviewed In: Kramer, J. J., & Conoley, J. C. (Eds.). (1992). The eleventh mental measurements yearbook. Lincoln, NE: Buros Institute of Mental Measurements.

The next step, if you use the website, is to find the test review.  It will be available online in Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print (see the above directions for access) OR you can locate the specified print edition of the yearbook in order to read the review.   All print yearbooks are now in the 1st floor stacks at Vogel Library.

The Buros website does not provide the actual reviews for free--it just tells the edition of the yearbook you can consult.

The Buros Center for Testing operates as an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the science and practice of testing and assessment.

STEP 2:

Once you know where a test review appears, you will need to locate the actual review in Mental Measurements Yearbook.

• You can use the database and read the review online.  See directions in Step 1.
  • This database is automatically updated as new information becomes available.

• Alternatively, this is also a print series in the library stacks.
  • The library continues to buy print copies as they are published.
  • All print copies are found at 150.287 M528.
  • They are no longer in the reference collection but are on the 1st floor in the stacks.

STEP 3:

Consider some of these additional reference materials, databases, or websites for information about tests.

Information on specific tests can be located in these databases: PsycINFO/PsycARTICLES and ERIC. Access them via this guide or on the Databases A to Z link below the Searching Squirrel box on the library home page.

In addition, many companies that produce psychological tests and measurements now have their own websites with ordering information, evaluative data, etc. Try to locate them by typing the name of a test or the company into a search engine.
