This general database can provide you with a lot of helpful sources looking into poverty from different angles.
SocINDEX
This database will definitely have a lot of socially-oriented poverty articles.

Search the main site for more local info.
State Data Center
The State Data Center of Iowa is your source for population, housing, business and government statistics about Iowa, including data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Iowa state agencies, and other state and federal sources.
The Urban Instutite
All sorts of data sets and reports on research--browse for what you need.
US Census.Gov site
Look census data up directly in the official website.
World Bank's site on poverty
All sorts of data sets--browse.
Rural Poverty Portal
Mostly exists to promote action to change poverty, but also includes a lot of data you could use.
Heritage Foundation's report on Poverty
Just be careful as this is obviously selected and filtered through whatever bias the HF might have (conservative).
National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP)
Lots of good info; I linked to their data tools page where you can choose what data you want.
