HI 312: Medieval History (Lindgren): Books

Books in our Library

We have HUNDREDS of books on the Middle Ages.

Take some time exploring the catalog (Searching Squirrel) or browse the shelves. You'll find primary sources, secondary sources, and books that include both.

How to find books with Primary Sources:

The cataloging system makes it easy to find books that include reprints of primary source documents from the Middle Ages. Simply use Advanced Search, choose "Sources" as a Subject Term, and add additional keywords in the keyword search box below that:

As you search for primary or secondary sources, it will pay off to notice other subject terms on the catalog pages of useful books, so that you can incorporate those words into later searches to help you focus your search results.

Below are snapshots of just a few subject terms from several different books on the Middle Ages. Note, for example, that they don't always use "Medieval," they'll sometimes use a time period):

Books from Other Libraries

You may find that you need more material than our library has. This is when it's time to search WorldCat and order something from another library.

You can search by keyword from the WorldCat homepage or go to Advanced Search to have more control.

  • Keywords can work well by finding books that have a chapter or two on your topic.

You can limit to books or other material types before or after the search.

Request the item through ILL if we do not have it in our library.
