Excel Tutorial

A helpful guide for students and patrons who are new to Microsoft Excel

Entering & Editing Data

A picture containing a screenshot of Microsoft Excel rows and columns.

When entering or editing a data, you first need to select the cell (ex. Cell A1) to insert the data into, as shown in the screenshot above. Then, double click the referenced cell, which will allow you to enter/edit the data in the cell. Once you are finished inserting the data, simply press Enter or click on another cell.

Adjusting Column Width & Row Height

When adjusting the column's width, select the letter box you wish to change the width of on the edge of the box. Then, your cursor should change, similar to the one shown in the video. Then, you simply hold and drag to adjust the width. The same idea applies when adjusting the height with the numbered rows.

You can also adjust the width by double clicking on the edge of the box. This formats the cell to extend to the length of the data found in the cell.

Simple Formatting

Similar to software such as Microsoft Word and Google Docs, you are given the option to format your data. These options are found on the ribbon when the "Home" tab is selected. There are multiple options available, such as changing the font, bolding the text, changing number values into percentages or dollar amounts, and much more.

Saving & Naming Workbooks

When trying to save and name a workbook, go to Files → Save As, then select the location and name of the workbook. Then, hit Save.
