Location History

History: The Ohio Synod moved its seminary program from Columbus, Ohio to Afton, Minnesota in 1884. The program flourished, and was moved to a new location in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1893. By 1927 the school, now called St. Paul Luther, consisted of three departments (an academy, a two-year college, and a three-year seminary). It was also coeducational. St. Paul Luther lost the seminary in 1932 when it was consolidated with the one in Dubuque. In 1933, the school took in students from the Eureka Lutheran College. In 1935, the Church decided to shut down St. Paul Luther in favor of the Wartburg campus in Waverly, Iowa. Eighteen students and four faculty members (John Chellevold, Jacob Cornils, Herman Kuhlmann, and Carl Muensch, along with the library holdings and the loyalty song made the move from St. Paul, MN to Waverly.
