SEM 200

This is a guide for information literacy education in Seminar 200 and Honors 200.

Information Literacy – What is it?

According to the Framework for Information Literacy by the Association of College & Research Libraries (2015), it is defined as:

set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning (para. 1).

Information literacy at Wartburg

At Wartburg, information literacy is embedded in THRIVE general education plan, as well as in major and minor classes. This aligns with the fifth THRIVE student learning outcome which is:

Students will critically engage with, create, and use information and technology, regardless of platform, source type or medium.

Critical information literacy skills and concepts are scaffolded throughout their time as a Knight. This starts in SEM 100 and other introductory classes.
