Welcome

Welcome to this Research Guide for English 112. I hope you find it useful. These pages will aid you in adapting a search strategy to support the process of inquiry.Search strategy includes these five basic steps.

  • Explore your topic.
    • What do you want to know about it?
    • What are you curious about?
  • Use an overview source to find more information and expand your knowledge of your topic.
    • Does this change what you want to know in any way?
  • Join the conversation by exploring the different aspects of your topic.
    • Develop a question to research combining what you are curious about with what you still want to know about the topic.
  • Identify the search terms in your question and brainstorm possible synonyms to use when searching.
    • Select appropriate resources and search for information.
  • Continue the conversation by reflecting, refining your question, evaluating and citing information as appropriate.
