Preface

The Wartburg College Archives is responsible for the collection and preservation of records that document the college’s history, development, operation, policies, people, activities, and events.

The Archives is committed to providing access to holdings. However, access to some items may be restricted by their fragile condition or by contractual agreement with the donors, and it may not be possible at all times to provide appropriate machinery for reading, viewing or accessing non-print materials. In such circumstances arrangements may have to be made for digital duplication or transfer to occur before access can be provided.

 

Introduction

Abstract: The Wartburg Echo was the Waverly Campus’ college newspaper. Publication began in 1919 and the last volume in the archives is from 1932. It was published monthly by a staff of students, and the subscription price was seventy-five cents.

 

Scope and Content Note

Extent: This collection consists of seventeen folders, within two boxes. The collection encompasses fourteen volumes.

Physical Description: The Wartburg Echo was first published as a stapled pamphlet, or a small booklet. This format began in 1919 before it was changed in 1925. From then on it was published in a newspaper format of various sizes. Included in the collection are three hardcover books, labeled compilations that contain all the issues of volume 3-5, volume 5, and volume 6.  

Dates: 1919-1932. There are individual issues missing, but no gaps in the volumes. 

Subjects: Volume 13 [14] from 1932 covers different aspects of the Wartburg Clinton/Waverly merger.
