Shopping for Quality

Looking for information is like shopping. Sometimes, a garage sale is just the right place for what we are seeking. Other times, we want to go to a speciality store to find something that meets our exact specifications. Information sources are like shopping venues--a range to suit all needs.

Information Literacy

Information literacy can be a complicated concept. However, here are a few ways that it breaks down.

  • a disposition of inquiry--what do I want to know about?
  • a disposition of critical thinking--what is the authority of the source of information?
  • a skill set--how can I be most efficient at finding the information I need?
  • a stance of self-assessment--how do I know that I have all the information I need?
  • for life--I will always need to be learning.
